A Voice Enabled Procedure Browser for the International Space Station

چکیده
Clarissa, an experimental voice enabled procedure browser that has recently been deployed on the International Space Station (ISS), is to the best of our knowledge the first spoken dialog system in space. This paper gives background on the system and the ISS procedures, then discusses the research developed to address three key problems: grammarbased speech recognition using the Regulus toolkit; SVM based methods for open microphone speech recognition; and robust side-effect free dialogue management for handling undos, corrections and confirmations.

Writing Voice Navigable Formal Documents
We describe how voice navigable versions of complex taskoriented documents can be written in an XML format that encodes extra information specifying how they are to be read by a voice browser. We focus in particular on the problem of creating XML representations that can be approved as voice versions of formal documents. The methods have been implemented in the context of a voice enabled proced...
متن کاملSide effect free dialogue management in a voice enabled procedure browser
We describe a general side-effect free dialogue management architecture suitable for command and control tasks, which extends the “update semantics” framework by including task as well as dialogue information in the information state. We show that this enables simple and elegant treatments of several dialogue management problems, including corrections, confirmations, querying of the environment...
متن کاملDevelopment and Evaluation of the Spoken Dialogue System Based on the W3C Recommendations
Due to progress in technology of speech recognition and understanding, the Spoken dialogue systems (SDS) have started to emerge as a practical alternative for a conversational computer interface. They are more effective than Interactive Voice Response (IVR) systems since they allow a more free and natural interaction. The Spoken dialogue systems are designed for providing automatic dialogue-bas...
متن کاملTalking through Procedures: An Intelligent Space Station Procedure Assistant
We present a prototype system aimed at providing spoken dialogue support for complex procedures aboard the International Space Station. The system allows navigation one line at a time or in larger steps. Other user functions include issuing spoken corrections, requesting images and diagrams, recording voice notes and spoken alarms, and controlling audio volume.
متن کاملA procedure assistant for astronauts in a functional programming architecture, with step previewing and spoken correction of dialogue moves
We present a demonstration of a prototype system aimed at providing support with procedural tasks for astronauts on board the International Space Station. Current functionality includes navigation within the procedure, previewing steps, requesting a list of images or a particular image, recording voice notes and spoken alarms, setting parameters such as audio volume. Dialogue capabilities inclu...
